Farmer-Florist

Arleth B.

✿ I'm currently a third-year student at Cal Poly, studying Plant Science with a concentration in Environmental Horticulture and a minor in Spanish. I grew up in the Napa Valley, where my connection to agriculture started early and has continued to shape my path. My passion for floral design began in high school through my involvement in the agriculture department. I was a member of the Floriculture Team and was named California FFA State Champion in 2023. Aside from the team, I was a member of the floral design enterprise, where we prepared, planned, and executed floral arrangements while operating like a small business within the community. I have also been able to design arrangements for weddings, along with community events for local organizations in Saint Helena, CA. Since then, I've continued to explore my passion for horticulture and floral design through classes, workshops, and community opportunities. Outside of school, I enjoy being outdoors, trying new coffee spots, baking, and spending time with family!

Caroline Smith

✿ Caroline began farming in 2019 after completing her studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She tended land & grew community in Ireland, Hawai’i, and the San Juan Islands, before landing on California’s Central Coast. Throughout her twenties, she studied regenerative agriculture intensively and has since integrated its practice into every facet of her work, floral design included. Caroline works to create a farming practice & environment that stewards community care, shared resources, and sustainable rhythms attuned to the Earth & her gardens.

Caroline believes in creating minimal waste within her floral offerings, and always aims to center right relationship with human, plant, & animal kin. Aside from her flower work, she enjoys crafting herbal medicine (flower essences, most of all), tanning hides, playing with natural dyes, and weaving fiber arts on her frame loom. Her primary focus at present dwells in completing her training & studies to be an out-of-hospital midwife. Caroline cares for families on the Central Coast with her doula services, as well, within A Stone Was Shown.
